Harvesting continues during the next two months. Although the corn harvest is over, there is much to be gathered for the Winter months in the form of fruit, nuts, herbs and fungi. Little Folk are extremely busy.
14th
Rough-nutting Day: Little Folk go gathering windfall nuts from the forest floor. Firm favourites are beechnuts and acorns, and the finder of the biggest conker gets to kick-off the conkerball at the next Great Trugby Match!
21st
Flaps Gathering: All Folk but especially Trugs who are partial to fungi, go picking mushrooms today. They are on the lookout paticularly for flaps, which are large flat mushrooms which are very juicy when cooked!
30th
Little Folk celebrate the Harvest Time by having a Ceilidh Dance where a special meal called Mash o'Nine Sorts is eaten, along with Flaps, or large flat mushrooms. Mash o'Nine Sorts is a mashed up stew containing potatoes, carrots, turnips, peas, parsnips, leeks, pepper, salt and milk. Hidden in the huge pot of stew is a lucky gem stone. The meal is served to each person in a Piggin which is a large drinking bowl with a handle.
